Job Description

Wellstar Health System is seeking a House Supervisor to provide clinical and operational leadership for our Healthcare & Medical Services department. This RN leader coordinates patient flow, staffing, and resources across hospital units, ensuring safe, high quality, patient-centered care. The House Supervisor serves as the on-site administrative designee after hours, supports bedside teams with clinical decision-making, responds to emergencies/rapid responses, and collaborates with physicians and ancillary departments. Responsibilities Provide hospital-wide clinical and operational supervision during assigned shifts Coordinate patient flow, admissions, transfers, and discharges to optimize bed utilization Oversee staffing levels and reassignments to ensure appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios Serve as administrative designee, making decisions aligned with hospital policies and standards Support bedside staff with complex clinical decision-making and escalation of care Respond to codes, rapid responses, and other clinical emergencies, ensuring effective coordination Collaborate with physicians, ancillary departments, and leadership to resolve issues in real time Monitor quality, safety, and patient experience metrics; initiate immediate interventions as needed Coach and mentor nursing staff, promoting professional development and a just culture Document key shift events, handoffs, and resource issues; communicate with incoming leadership Required Skills Acute care nursing Clinical assessment and critical thinking Hospital operations and patient flow management Staffing and scheduling systems Emergency/code response Electronic health records (EHR) Interdisciplinary communication Conflict resolution and de-escalation Regulatory and safety standards (Joint Commission, CMS) Leadership and team coordination
