Intermediate Job Description Join Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home and be part of a team that proudly cares for our friends, family, and neighbors across East Hawaiʻi. As the Nursing Unit Manager, you will play a vital leadership role in ensuring the delivery of exceptional, resident-centered care while supporting and developing a high-performing nursing team. Working closely with the Director of Nursing, you will help drive clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, quality improvement initiatives, and a culture of compassion that enhances the lives of our residents every day. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of nursing operations to ensure safe, high-quality resident care.
  • Supervise, coach, and support nursing staff through scheduling, performance management, training, and ongoing development.
  • Oversee resident assessments, care planning, physician orders, clinical documentation, and interdisciplinary care coordination.
  • Promote compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations, quality assurance standards, and survey readiness.
  • Monitor infection prevention, resident safety, and risk management practices while supporting continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing on departmental planning, staffing, budgeting, policy development, and operational improvements. Education, Experience & Licensure
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Hawaii.
  • Previous nursing experience in a hospital, skilled nursing, long-term care, or other healthcare setting, with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations, nursing standards, infection prevention, rehabilitation and restorative nursing practices, and quality assurance processes.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills with the ability to effectively support staff, residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, proficient in written and spoken English, and committed to providing compassionate care to older adults.
