Unity Physicians Hospital is hiring a Clinical Coordinator RN Pre-OP / PACU in Mishawaka, IN. This is a full-time position.
Principal Functions:
This position provides clinical leadership and support to nursing and support staff while promoting safe, efficient, and patient-centered care throughout surgical experience. Responsible for coordinating the daily clinical operations of the surgical Pre-operative and Post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). Supports and promotes patient safety, adherence to policies and procedures, and follows ASPAN standards for all patients. The Clinical Coordinator works collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, operating room staff, surgical pre-admission staff, and serves as a resource, team leader, and patient, physician, and facility advocate. Works with the Director of Surgical Services to ensure appropriate patient flow, communication, and continuity of care. Position is for a Full Time RN and Hours are: (4) 10-hour day shifts per week.Position Duties:
All duties listed in Primary Job Description Registered Nurse. Oversee the daily workflow of both Pre-Op and PACU. Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and send out daily assignments. Develops staffing schedule monthly and sends out to staff at least two weeks prior to the first day of the month. Identify and resolve delays, bottlenecks, and staffing issues as they arise. Serve as a clinical resource for RNs and support staff. Responsible for pre-operatively prepping or post-operatively recovering a surgical patient and covering call-offs as needed and able. Monitor patient assessments, documentation, medication administration, and handoffs. Monitor compliance with surgical safety processes, including, but not limited to; patient identification, allergies, consents, site verification, and medications. Keep an open line of communication with the Director of Surgical Services regarding any issues or new information pertaining to the department. Provide real-time direction and support to staff. Monitor attendance, punctuality, productivity, and adherence to assigned responsibilities. Address performance concerns promptly and communicate significant issues to the Director. Promote teamwork and a professional work environment. Remain aware of upcoming cases by regularly checking email communication, the OR schedule, and Doc Halo/Secure Chat. Troubleshoot workflow issues by collaborating with the Director of Surgical Services and other Unity colleagues. Ensure required competencies for staff are completed and maintained. In collaboration with the Director, provides coaching when staff practice does not meet expectations. Identify opportunities for improvements in patient flow, quality, efficiency, and the patient experience. Act as an on-site clinical leadership resource when the Director of Surgical Services is unavailable and communicate any concerns or issues with the OR charge RN, as necessary. Be an expert and resource for surgical procedures, know physician/provider preferences, supplies needed, and maintain and develop staff and facilitate successful execution of all preparation and recovery of surgical patients. Help implement leadership decisions and hold staff accountable for established expectations. Communicates and collaborates with patient care assistants and Materials team to ensure all products and supplies are available as needed. Demonstrate flexibility to meet the needs of the department. Due to the variable hours of Surgical Services, the Clinical Coordinator should be prepared to adjust their schedule based on patient volume, surgical case schedule, staffing needs, and departmental priorities. This requires a start time of 0430 on some days and staying later other days as cases end in order to support PACU staff. Scheduling may vary from week to week and day to day based on the needs of the department. This flexibility is an important component of the role and necessary to provide appropriate clinical oversight, continuity of patient care and adequate support for staff throughout the day.
