JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Charge Registered Nurse to lead and coordinate nursing care within our healthcare facility. This vital role involves supervising nursing staff, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and delivering exceptional patient care across diverse clinical settings. The Charge Nurse acts as a clinical leader, fostering teamwork, managing patient assessments, and maintaining high standards of nursing practice. RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide direct supervision and management of nursing staff, including assigning duties and overseeing daily operations to ensure efficient workflow. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed medical documentation to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, catheter care, and perform venipuncture while adhering strictly to HIPAA regulations and safety protocols. Coordinate patient care activities such as tube feeding, ventilator management, wound suturing, and catheterization to optimize health outcomes. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state healthcare regulations, long-term care standards, and nursing policy guidelines through ongoing monitoring and staff education. Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Cerner or Epic for accurate documentation of medical records, medication administration, and diagnostic evaluations. Lead quality improvement initiatives by participating in utilization review, discharge planning, case management, and ensuring adherence to NCQA standards for patient safety and care quality.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required:

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred.

Preferred:

BSN from an ACEN or CCNE-accredited nursing program.

Preferred:

One (1) or more years of nursing experience in an inpatient rehabilitation, acute care, or neurological/orthopedic nursing setting. New graduates considered with demonstrated clinical performance and strong academic preparation.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Required:

Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN).

Required:

Current BLS/CPR certification (AHA or Red Cross); must be maintained throughout employment.

Preferred:

Certification in Rehabilitation Nursing (CRRN) — encouraged for experienced RNs.

Required:

Louisiana RN license must be verified through LSBN prior to commencement of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of nursing process, care planning, and evidence-based practice in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. Understanding of common rehabilitation diagnoses including stroke, TBI, SCI, hip fracture, and joint replacement. Ability to assess and manage medically complex patients with multiple comorbidities. Knowledge of medication administration safety, high-alert medications, and nursing pharmacology principles. Ability to use FIM scoring in collaboration with the therapy team and IDT. Proficiency with EHR documentation, nursing care plans, and electronic MAR. Strong communication skills for patient, family, and IDT interactions. Ability to supervise and direct CNAs/PCTs effectively and safely. Knowledge of infection control standards, including contact/droplet/airborne precautions. Commitment to person-centered, culturally sensitive rehabilitation nursing care.
