To plan, prepare, coordinate and supervise the sterile instrument processing functions and activities for Central Sterile Processing Department.
Directs the daily supervision of all shift work (receiving, decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization and distribution of surgical or procedural instruments and packs).Schedules staff assignments on a daily basis. Assists the CSPD manager with monthly staff schedule.
Assures adherence to all quality systems, checks and measures.
Assists the manager with all hiring, evaluation, counseling and termination of staff.
Communicates in a professional manner both verbally and in writing to all hospital staff and company employees.
Maintains safety standards to assure compliance with University, state and federal codes or regulations.
Responsible for employee productivity, employee presence in the workplace, and employee adherence to break times.
Provide disciplinary action in accordance with applicable policies and collective bargaining agreements in consultation with the CSPD Manager and Human Resources. Accurately maintains and approves employee timekeeping systems and records in accordance with institutional requirements and applicable policies and regulations.
Supervises staff in compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements, University policies, and departmental procedures.
Coordinates workflow and services between departments.
Assists in the resolution of operating problems.
Integrates ethical principles, professional standards, and evidence-based practice in all aspects of practice.
Participates in committees, task forces, projects, and other meetings.
Assists with conducting competency assessments and maintaining educational and/or clinical files appropriate to role.
Leads and participates in in-services and educational offerings. Promotes a safe and healthy work environment.
Understands and facilitates the initiation and adoption of change and Lean principles.
Demonstrates flexibility and maintains confidentiality.
Monitors and maintains sterilization documentation.
Assures parameters of sterilization are met and instruments are safe for use.
Initiates sterilizer load recall as indicated and completes all safety reporting documentation.
Assures that all equipment is properly maintained, and testing is properly documented.
Conducts quality assurance audits and assists with preparation of departmental reports.
Monitor and maintain department inventory and supplies.
Collaborate with and act as a liaison with other departments to support and facilitate safe and effective patient care.
Provide consultation, support, assistance.
Networking/information gathering.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Current certification through CBSPD or HSPAHS Diploma or equivalentA minimum of three years of experience in sterile processingExtensive knowledge of OR and clinical instrumentationDemonstrated competency in Excel, Word and OutlookAbility to demonstrate University of Michigan Health Care customer service standards and behaviors.
