VirtualMed Iowa

Clinical Operations Manager LPN/RN

Job Description

Clinical Operations Manager
  • LPN/RN $65,000
  • 75,000/year | Full-Time | Monday-Friday | Hybrid | Ames, Iowa Are you an experienced nurse who loves healthcare but is ready for something beyond a traditional nursing role?
VirtualMed Iowa is looking for an experienced LPN or RN to become our Clinical Operations Manager — a key role combining nursing knowledge, clinic operations, problem-solving, and leadership. This is not a traditional bedside nursing position. You will help own the day-to-day clinical operations that keep our clinic running smoothly, while working closely with our provider and team to improve systems, solve problems, and create an exceptional experience for our patients. Why VirtualMed Iowa? We are a growing, independent primary care clinic in Ames, Iowa. Being a small clinic is intentional. We value a warm atmosphere, personal relationships with our patients, efficient systems, and giving great people the autonomy to do great work. You won't be one employee among thousands or have to navigate layers of management to improve something. In this position, you'll have the opportunity to identify problems, improve workflows, build systems, and have a meaningful impact on how our clinic operates. The position is hybrid, with much of the administrative and operational work able to be completed remotely. You will also serve as backup in-clinic nursing support when needed, but routine in-person nursing coverage is not the primary purpose of this position. What You'll Own As Clinical Operations Manager, you'll become the operational owner of many of the clinical and administrative responsibilities that do not require the provider.
Responsibilities include:
  • Managing patient portal messages and refill workflows
  • Completing medication and imaging prior authorizations
  • Managing vaccines, inventory, and ordering
  • Managing medical supplies and inventory
  • Credentialing and payer enrollment
  • Tracking licenses, certifications, and required training
  • Supporting clinic compliance
  • Creating, documenting, and implementing SOPs and clinic policies
  • Overseeing our outsourced billing partner and following up on denials, accounts receivable issues, billing problems, and trends
  • Coordinating communication between the provider, clinical staff, front desk, and billing
  • Troubleshooting day-to-day clinic operational problems
  • Helping develop new workflows and services as the clinic grows
  • Providing occasional patient check-in/front desk support when needed
  • Serving as backup in-person nursing support when needed Who We're Looking For This role is best suited for an experienced nurse who is organized, independent, comfortable with technology, and naturally thinks about how things could work better.
You don't need someone standing over your shoulder telling you what to do next. You notice problems, take ownership, communicate clearly, and follow things through to completion. You may currently be an experienced outpatient nurse, charge nurse, nurse manager, clinic lead, or RN/LPN looking to move away from traditional bedside nursing into a position with more operational ownership.
Qualifications Required:
Active Iowa LPN or RN license 3+ years of nursing experience Strong organizational and communication skills Comfortable working independently and managing multiple priorities Strong computer and technology skills Ability to identify problems and follow through on solutions Professional, positive, and patient-centered communication
Strongly Preferred:
Outpatient, primary care, or ambulatory clinic experience Nurse manager, charge nurse, clinic lead, or similar leadership experience Experience with prior authorizations and refill workflows Experience with EMRs and patient portals Experience with clinic policies, compliance, credentialing, or payer enrollment Experience working with medical billing or revenue-cycle teams
