Job Description

Job Summary The Nursing Supervisor is a centralized clinical leader who provides direct supervision and professional development support to Registered Nurses (RNs) and the Clinical Resource Team. This role also provides functional clinical oversight of Medical Assistants (MAs) across all clinic sites. Reporting to the Director of Nursing (DON), this position plays a key role in maintaining high-quality nursing practice, developing onboarding and training programs, standardizing clinical workflows, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The Nursing Supervisor also maintains active clinical practice and provides hands-on support when needed.
Essential Functions:
These functions are fundamental to the role and must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation. 1. Clinical Supervision and Mentoring
  • Provides direct supervision and coaching to RNs, fostering clinical excellence, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Holds responsibility for RN hiring and termination decisions in accordance with organizational policies and within site-specific budget constraints.
  • Collaborates closely with site leadership when RNs are not meeting performance expectations to ensure aligned follow-up and resolution.
  • Coordinates the deployment and scheduling of Clinical Resource staff & RNs across sites to ensure equitable rotation, appropriate coverage, and clinical readiness.
  • Establishes strong mentoring relationships with nursing staff to support problem-solving, skill development, and role clarity.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to MAs and RNs for escalated questions, clinical judgment, and best practices.
  • Collaborates with the Site Leadership, the Director of Nursing, and other CVCH leadership to ensure alignment of clinical policies and care standards.
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures to support quality improvement and Joint Commission standards. 2. Leadership
  • Demonstrates leadership through role modeling, mentorship, and professional integrity.
  • Fosters team synergy by promoting collaboration, mutual respect, and accountability.
  • Approaches challenges with problem-solving mindset and clinical judgment.
  • Builds trust and influence across multidisciplinary teams to support aligned decision-making.
  • Supports a culture of continuous improvement, staff empowerment, and shared ownership of clinical outcomes. 3. Onboarding and Orientation
  • Develops and manages individualized onboarding plans for all new RNs and any assigned staff.
  • Assigns preceptors and coordinates structured check-ins to monitor progress and ensure readiness.
  • Oversees documentation and timely completion of onboarding milestones, skills checklists, and clinical competencies. 4. Clinical Education
  • Designs and delivers ongoing clinical education for RNs and MAs in partnership with the Clinical Resource and Development team.
  • Identifies learning needs and coordinates training initiatives to ensure staff competency, regulatory compliance, and consistent clinical standards.
  • Supports continuing education, certification preparation, and professional development pathways. 5. Functional Clinical Oversight of MAs
  • Provides functional oversight and clinical guidance for MA practice, supporting alignment with nursing protocols and workflows.
  • Collaborates with Medical Support Supervisors and MA leads to support consistent clinical standards, delegation protocols, and skill-building.
  • Advises on MA training needs, safety concerns, and clinical practices, especially as they relate to standing orders, documentation, and infection prevention. 6. Clinical Quality and Standardization
  • Collaborates with the DON, and clinical leaders to implement and monitor standardized workflows and protocols.
  • Participates in policy development and updates to ensure alignment with evidence-based practice and regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, OSHA, CDC). 7. Safety and Event Reporting
  • Reviews assigned clinical event and safety reports, supports root cause analysis, and contributes to follow-up and corrective action planning.
  • Promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. 8. Process Improvement
  • Leads and supports process improvement initiatives to streamline workflows, improve documentation, and elevate patient care quality.
  • Serves as a superuser and trainer for EMR systems and other clinical tools. 9. Committee Participation
  • Participates in nursing leadership, clinical operations, and appropriate departmental meetings
  • Serves as a conduit between centralized clinical leadership and operational site leaders. 10. Regulatory and Compliance Support
  • Supports compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements related to clinical care, nursing scope, and documentation. 11. Budget Accountability
  • Makes staffing decisions for RNs in alignment with staffing models and financial constraints provided by each clinic site.
  • Coordinates proactively with site leaders to ensure nurse coverage aligns with operational needs and financial guidelines.

Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
Current Washington State Nursing License. Current CPR certification is required.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a clinic or hospital setting, with a strong interest in developing leadership and management skills. Previous experience in community/migrant health centers preferred.
