POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Charge Nurse Hours:
12hr shift Day Shift ( 5:30am-6:00pm), every third weekend - rotating Holiday schedule This role offers strong potential for growth and advancement within the company
JOB SUMMARY
Plans, directs, coordinates, and supervises resident care. Utilizes the nursing process to provide direct, professional nursing care to residents according to established standards, policies, procedures, licensure, and scope of practice. Coordinate cares with ancillary staff, and to communicate effectively with the Director of Nursing.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
RESPONSIBILITY FOR:
Nursing diagnosis of human response to actual or potential health problems of individuals or groups. Providing preventive, restorative and supportive care, health teaching and counseling, case finding and referral.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Good mental and physical health. Good finger and hand dexterity required to handle and manipulate instruments and equipment. Visual and aural acuity to detect changes in the resident's condition. Good physical agility to stand, bend, sit, walk, stoop and lift up to between 51 and 74 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of South Dakota. Be certified in Basic Life Support.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Works indoors in well lighted and ventilated nursing home rooms.
WORK PREFORMED
Makes nursing assessments regarding the health status of the resident and is knowledgeable of the resident's condition at all times and reports pertinent changes to family, physician and Director or Nursing. Delegates nursing tasks but is responsible and accountable for the completion of the tasks and the quality of care given. Implements the nursing care of each resident assigning the nursing care of each resident to other nursing personnel in accordance with the resident's needs and the preparation and competence of the nursing staff available. Documents in the medical record information that reflects the entire nursing assessment, diagnosis, plan, implementation and evaluation. Documents in the medical record information that reflects any change in condition or behavior of the resident. Documents information a minimum of once a month. Does note no change in the resident's condition, if this is the case. Attends staff meetings, supervisor meetings and pharmacy meetings and special work shops approved by administration. When unable to attend reads, signs, and dates minutes of the meeting. Investigates and studies trends and developments in nursing practices and techniques and evaluates the adaptability to needs of specific nursing duties. Effectively uses appropriate communication principles with residents, families and other health care professionals. Demonstrates skills and nursing functions such as starting I.V.'s, giving oral and parental medications, and performing treatments. Knows and follows established procedures for infection control, safety and fire and disaster evacuation plans, and has read these manuals as well as the personnel policy manual. Documents and reports all variances which include medication errors, and helps other staff in making variance reports. Assesses the need for additional staffing and calls the Director of Nursing or Nursing Aides to meet those needs. Orders medication from the pharmacy according to the facility procedure
