Job Description

At Oceans Behavioral Hospital Hammond, healing is our focus. Utilizing proven, innovative and progressive therapies, our qualified professionals strive to promote long-term wellness through a range of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric counseling and treatment options. Directs and manages the daily operations of the nutrition services department including staffing, training, budget compliance, procurement, production, service, and regulatory compliance. If the hospital is using an outside nutrition services vendor for meal service, coordinates preparation and delivery of food for patient meals and ensures appropriate menus served according to diet orders and in compliance with current regulations. All duties to be done in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures and PI Standards. .
Essential Functions:
Directs and manages the daily operations of the hospital's nutrition services department. Ensures compliance with P&P's and makes recommendations for revision, as indicated. Implements Continuous Quality Improvement Procedures for the hospital's Nutrition Services Department. Participates in the hospital QAPI committee, Infection Control Committee, Utilization Review Committee, Safety Committee and/or other committees assigned. Monitors and ensures compliance with food safety/sanitation standards, including maintaining records. Ensures patient menus are approved by the registered dietitian and are correctly followed by staff. Communicates dietary needs and consults with registered dietitian. Assures delivery of appropriate nutritional care and maintains patient satisfaction with food service. Procures food and nutrition supplies from approved sources. Maintains appropriate stock for patient nutrition care including meals, snacks, and supplementation. Demonstrates understanding of departmental budget and manages effectively. Acts as the department liaison with other departments/vendors to ensure adequate nutrition care. Keeps current on all meal censuses, diet orders / change orders. Develops and manages nutrition service personnel. Performs other related duties as assigned.
