An Occupational Therapist helps patients with injuries, illnesses, and disabilities recover, improve, or develop skills needed for everyday activities. Assists people with mobility impairments to move easily around their homes; develops school and workplace settings that are accessible for individuals with physical or mental disabilities. May specialize in certain types of impairments or certain categories of patients.
Job Summary and Responsibilities As an Occupational Therapist, you will help patients regain independence and quality of life so they can safely perform daily activities. Every day you will assess diverse patients (orthopedic, neurological, sensory, cancer recovery, etc.), develop treatment plans, and conduct evaluations/re-evaluations. You will be expected to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, document thoroughly, and provide positive, motivating care to a high volume of patients. To be successful in this role, you must be flexible, adaptable, exceptionally organized, and a personable, motivating team player.
Evaluations:
Completed within 48 hours once evaluation has been initiated. All relevant areas are thoroughly completed. Appropriate goals are set relative to the patient's prior level of function. Treatment plan is relevant to patient's problems identified. Patient/family participates in treatment plan and in setting goals.
Provides effective and adequate treatment:
Ongoing assessment of treatment effectiveness. Goals and treatment are modified as appropriate in relation to working toward goals. Selects appropriate treatment interventions Patient/family education and training: Demonstrates a variety of teaching methods. Methods are appropriate to the level of understanding. Education is timely and need is identified with action taken to initiate training. Content is comprehensive-all aspects of care. Patient/family performance is documented.
Documentation:
Completed in a timely manner according to department policy. Concise, legible, correct grammar, using medical terminology and approved abbreviations.
