Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate school-based Occupational Therapist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in the school setting working with students ages 3 to 22. This role involves working students with disabilities, to help them achieve their maximum potential in daily school activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assessment:
1. Receive and respond to referral requests from assigned schools according to current referral process and policies 2. Assess the educationally relevant therapy needs of students as evidenced in appropriate program environments 3. Participate in a joint evaluation process with other disciplines as deemed appropriate on an individual basis 4. Assess the environmental needs of assigned students and make recommendations for adaptations and/or alterations of same 5. Document evaluation results incorporating physical/developmental information with environmental data in an effort to determine educational relevance of the recommended therapeutic interventions 6. Perform ongoing assessment of student progress and changes in students' therapeutic needs based on ongoing systematic data collection and analysis as related to educational program and will document changes as necessary
Program Planning:
1. Collaborate with student's teachers and other related service personnel in determining program needs and setting priorities 2. Consult with occupational therapist as needed for assistance in determining problems, therapeutic needs, and appropriate interventions for functional area requiring specific professional expertise 3. Prepare a plan for therapeutic intervention consistent with student's educational program needs as they are affected by his/her underlying physical and emotional difficulties 4. Write educational relevant goals and benchmarks with input from other multidisciplinary team members 5. Prepare and communicate programs to promote carry-over of therapeutic intervention into the educational and home environments 6. Participate in scheduling student and class activities where appropriate to identify opportunities for integration of positioning and movement expectations into functional activities of identified environments
Program Implementation:
1. Provide therapy services in accordance with IEP requirements 2. Communicate to building personnel his/her adherence to weekly schedule and will communicate changes in scheduling as they occur 3. Balance service delivery models between direct, indirect, consultative and monitoring to most efficiently and effectively meet each student's individual needs within the guidelines and utilizing all resources of the student's assigned educational program 4. Incorporate recommendations from consulting therapist into own approach as the student's primary therapist 5. Fabricate, order, or otherwise assist in obtaining necessary equipment and adaptive devices required for appropriate positioning and optimal participation in educational activities 6. Instruct teachers, parents and other related service personnel in methods for safe physical management of assigned students 7. Implement approved student safety procedures 8. Document progress, feedback, and recommendations for program changes as they occur 9. Maintain current prescriptions, records of attendance, contacts and logs as required 10. Consult or request consult with physicians, school personnel, parents and others as necessary to achieve functional objectives 11. Participate in ordering and maintaining supplies as appropriate for assigned schools
Team Process and Professional Growth:
1. Participate in staffings and annual reviews as required by IEP's of assigned students 2. Collaborate with classroom teacher and building principal in determining scheduling and space requirements as appropriate to assigned program 3. Participate in and present inservice programs within NDSEC and assigned schools as required 4. Expand professional knowledge and expertise by attending staff development activities, professional conferences and seminars as required 5. Communicate to appropriate administrative personnel changes in program needs, current program concerns, and requests for assistance for OT Coordinator or other appropriate personnel in a continuing effort to improve the services of the OT staff 6. Assist in the development of new services, programs and policies as requested
