Occupational Therapist (New Orleans VA) Pay- $46 to $48 per hour 401(k) with 4% match Dental, vision, and health insurance 11 Federal Paid Holidays Paid time off We have an opening at the New Orleans VA for a committed and patient-focused Occupational Therapist to develop, recover or maintain the daily living and work skills of veterans with physical, mental or developmental conditions. You will offer effective and client-centered inpatient (all conditions) and/or outpatient services (mainly ortho) that will enable people to confidently and independently carry out everyday tasks or activities. OT will see 5-7 patients per day outpatient or 6-8 inpatient per day. Requirements Minimum of two years of hospital experience or two years of outpatient experience A current license to practice in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth. Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency. Responsibilities 80% of the time involved in direct patient care. Evaluate a wide variety of patients as appropriate for their diagnosis to determine current levels of functioning and areas of impairment. Evaluations may include the following areas: activities of daily living, strength, range of motion, sensation, perception and cognition. Develop a treatment plan and measurable goals designed to restore function, compensate for dysfunction, and minimize debilitation. Implement occupational therapy plans to meet the patient's rehabilitation objectives. Evaluate for, prescription of, and training in the use of wheelchairs and power mobility devices. Assess patient's fixed and modifiable deformities, sitting/postural requirements, presence of amputations, skin integrity, pressure areas, living environment, and mode of transportation for the device. Make mechanical adjustments and/or attaching positioning devices and accessories to ensure an appropriate fit of a manual wheelchair. Re-evaluate patient progress and make appropriate modifications to treatment. Train family members/caregivers in handling of patients.
