An Occupational Therapist helps patients with injuries, illnesses, and disabilities recover, improve, or develop skills needed for everyday activities. Assists people with mobility impairments to move easily around their homes; develops school and workplace settings that are accessible for individuals with physical or mental disabilities. May specialize in certain types of impairments or certain categories of patients.
Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) Nyman Associates is seeking compassionate, self-directed, and organized individuals to support students with vision needs and/or blindness.
Position Summary:
As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M), you will be responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with blindness or visual impairments, assessing their needs, developing appropriate learning materials, teaching travel skills, orientation and mobility skills, and adapting classroom/school environments to ensure accessibility, all while collaborating with general education teachers and parents to promote student inclusion and success
Responsibilities:
Prepare students with visual impairments to travel independently and safely Preform evaluations that focus on long and short-term needs of the student Prepare meaningful instruction geared to students assessed needs, IEP goals and objectives, functioning level, and motivation level Prepare and use equipment and materials such as tactile maps, models, optical devices, pre-canes, GPS devices, and others Provide orientation of new buildings and new class schedules as needed Provide instruction/information on recreational leisure skills, outdoor travel skills, residential, and commercial public transportation
Qualifications:
