Job Description

Reports To:
Regional Supervisor Job Goal(s): The primary job goal of the Occupational Therapist, in the educational system, is to support special education students and their teachers to maximize the student's ability to participate successfully in the academic/school experience.
Location of Work :
Local Districts - Hartford (3) & Bangor (2) Special Services Building 701 South Paw Paw Street Lawrence, MI 49064
Minimum Qualifications:
Education :
Bachelors degree in occupational therapy required
Certification :
Michigan Registered Occupational Therapist or eligible for registration required
Work Experience :
Previous experience in the area of occupational therapy and experience working with students with needs requiring assistive technology support and those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is preferred
Skills:
Knowledge of normal childhood development Knowledge of developmental assessment Knowledge of therapy techniques applied to disabilities Possess clinical observation skills Ability to communicate assessment findings to pertinent staff Ability to use computer is helpful
Essential Job Functions:
Complete a comprehensive evaluation of students in response to a special education referral. Participate in educational planning. Provide services to special education students as assigned on the IEP. Effectively communicate, consult, and team with parents, staff, agencies, and others. Perform appropriate action/report in response to referrals of special education students. Keep local schools informed of the status of referrals and services. Adhere to Van Buren ISD policies and procedures. Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established time lines. Perform additional tasks, responsibilities, and duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor. Valid driver's license required.

As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
