Job Description

Position Expectations :
General Summary - Facilitates development and rehabilitation of clients with mental, emotional, and physical disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed occupational therapy services.
Typical duties and responsibilities:
Integrate occupational therapy treatment with other aspects of patient care. Plans therapeutic care based on clinical assessment. Provide an assessment and obtain information from medical records, medical staff, family members, and the client's themselves to assess client's capabilities, needs and interests. Confer with members of the rehabilitation team to plan and evaluate client's therapy program. Coordinate with the clinical staff to develop a treatment plan based on physician directive, functional capacity and clinical assessment Facilitate, collaborate and co-ordinate all treatment disciplines to provide oversight and direction ensuring the client's needs (i.e. treatment plan), goals and objectives are being met. Evaluate, record, and report on client's response to treatment and progress towards identified goals. Recommend changes in patients' work or living environments, consistent with their needs and capabilities. Select activities that will help individuals learn work and life-management skills within limits of their cognitive and physical capabilities. Assist clients to improve their decision making, abstract reasoning, memory, sequency, coordination and perceptual skills using occupational therapy tools. Plan, organize, and conduct programs in a variety of sensorimeter, educational, recreational and social activities designed to help client regain physical or cognitive functioning or adjust to their disability. Coordinate with the Vocational Rehabilitation Program to facilitate a client's transition into the community as needed. Provide training and supervision in occupational/rehabilitation therapy techniques, goals, and objectives for the rehabilitation team. Develop and conduct programs to educate and instruct clients, families, the community, and other stakeholders regarding traumatic brain injury, Communicate with external agencies and stakeholders; be a liaison as needed to co-ordinate and disseminate information Attend client care conferences, staff meetings, trainings, and other meetings as required. Contribute to the development of occupational therapy policies and procedures and maintaining current standards of practice. Contribute to the development quality improvement projects and appropriate evaluation indicators for the occupational therapy program. Maintains appropriate licensure and/or certification, attends seminars to continue licensing requirements (CEU's). Contribute to statistical/record keeping for outcomes-based data reporting. Comply with all company policies and procedures as well as federal and state laws. Follow all licensing and regulatory rules and CARF standards.
Competencies:
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong client care skills. Must have working knowledge of neuro-anatomy as well as brain injury. Must understand Medical Rehabilitation Framework. Must have working knowledge of how Occupational Therapy contributes to the rehabilitation process of acquired brain injury.
Education and Experience:
Licensed in the State of Michigan Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited educational program in occupational therapy is minimal requirement. Has passed the national certification program and is an OTR.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
