An Occupational Therapist helps patients with injuries, illnesses, and disabilities recover, improve, or develop skills needed for everyday activities. Assists people with mobility impairments to move easily around their homes; develops school and workplace settings that are accessible for individuals with physical or mental disabilities. May specialize in certain types of impairments or certain categories of patients.
Full Time Occupational Therapist position in West Albuquerque, NM. Evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve functional independence and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
Evaluate patients' physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities through observation and standardized assessments. Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans to improve functional skills and independence. Provide therapeutic interventions focused on activities of daily living (ADLs), mobility, and adaptive techniques. Recommend adaptive equipment and train patients in proper use. Educate patients, families, and caregivers on strategies for daily living and long-term recovery. Maintain accurate patient records, documentation, and progress reports in EMR systems. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and rehabilitation team members to ensure coordinated patient care. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and quality assurance standards. Participate in professional development through continuing education, workshops, and in‑service training. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support patient care and department operations.

Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an ACOTE‑accredited program. Completion of Level I and Level II supervised fieldwork. Successful completion of the NBCOT exam to obtain OTR credential. Active or eligible for New Mexico Occupational Therapy license through the New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department. Current BLS/CPR certification. Completion of required continuing education for annual license renewal.
Preferred Skills:
Two years of acute care experience preferred, especially in ICU, trauma, or neurology units. Experience assisting patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and mobility training. Familiarity with hospital equipment including lifts, splints, and adaptive devices. Experience with electronic medical record documentation systems.
