Job Description

Our client is currently seeking a Orientation & Mobility Specialist!
Location:
Garnet Valley PA Schedule:
Part-Time, 15.25 Hours per Month Position Summary The Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist provides specialized orientation and mobility services to students who are blind or visually impaired in accordance with district policies, state regulations, and federal special education requirements. This position is responsible for conducting comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments, developing and implementing individualized educational programming, and providing direct instruction designed to enhance students' safe, efficient, and independent travel skills across school, home, and community environments. The O&M Specialist collaborates closely with students, families, educators, related service providers, and administrators to ensure students receive appropriate services and achieve meaningful progress toward independence and mobility goals. Essential ResponsibilitiesAssessment & Program Development Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility evaluations for students with visual impairments. Analyze assessment data and develop individualized goals and objectives aligned with student needs. Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings. Develop, implement, and monitor orientation and mobility components of IEPs. Prepare progress reports and maintain documentation required by district, state, and federal regulations. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Orientation & Mobility or a closely related field. Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP), or eligibility to obtain certification. Holds or is eligible for any required Pennsylvania credential or licensure.
Demonstrated knowledge of:
Orientation and mobility instruction Concept development Sensory and orientation skills Human guide and protective techniques Long cane instruction Street crossing and public transportation training Experience utilizing assistive technology, low-vision devices, and electronic travel aids. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, families, and administrators.
