Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract A school-based contract opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support visually impaired students through the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. This role focuses on enhancing students' independence and safe travel skills within a supportive educational environment located in Jersey Shore, PA.
Key responsibilities include:
Participating in referral and assessment processes for students with visual impairments. Conducting comprehensive evaluations covering concept development, orientation to environments, travel techniques, use of low-vision devices, sensory development, self-advocacy, and personal safety. Developing and implementing tailored
IEP/IFSP
goals and instructional plans. Providing direct orientation and mobility instruction and consulting with school staff, families, and community members. Managing canes and low-vision device inventory related to student travel. Monitoring progress using criterion-based assessments and maintaining accurate documentation. Delivering in-service training sessions for educators, families, and community stakeholders. Advising school personnel on creating safe and accessible environments. Maintaining a valid state driver's license and the ability to travel for job responsibilities.
Qualifications and experience desired:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility. Current Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential issued by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP).
