The Occupational Therapist will evaluate members, develop individualized Plans of Care, provide medically necessary occupational therapy interventions, monitor member progress, and work collaboratively with families, caregivers, support coordinators, physicians, and other professionals involved in the member's care. Services may be provided in members' homes, community settings, schools/program settings when applicable, or other authorized locations in accordance with Arizona DDD requirements and the member's approved service plan. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations and assessments based on the member's needs and authorized services. Identify functional limitations and areas in which occupational therapy intervention may improve the member's independence and participation in daily activities. Develop individualized, measurable, and functional treatment goals and Plans of Care based on evaluation findings. Provide medically necessary occupational therapy services in accordance with the member's authorized Plan of Care. Develop interventions designed to improve activities of daily living and functional independence. Assist members with developing self-care and home-management skills. Provide therapeutic activities and exercises designed to improve strength, endurance, range of motion, flexibility, coordination, and functional mobility where appropriate. Address fine-motor, visual-motor, perceptual, cognitive, and sensory-processing needs when clinically indicated. Develop strategies to improve attention, memory, problem-solving, organization, and other functional cognitive skills. Evaluate and recommend adaptive equipment, assistive technology, positioning devices, and environmental modifications as appropriate. Teach members, families, caregivers, and support staff techniques that support the member's therapeutic goals and functional independence. Modify treatment approaches based on the member's abilities, progress, response to intervention, environment, and changing needs. Monitor member progress and modify treatment goals and interventions when clinically appropriate. Coordinate with physicians, DDD Support Coordinators, families, caregivers, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, behavioral health professionals, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Participate in planning meetings, case conferences, and other member-related meetings when required. Provide recommendations regarding continuation, modification, frequency, or discontinuation of occupational therapy services based on clinical findings and progress. Maintain professional and ethical standards in accordance with Arizona occupational therapy laws, regulations, and scope-of-practice requirements. Skills Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and clinical assessment techniques relevant to occupational therapy practice. Proven experience working with individuals with disabilities across diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, neurodevelopmental disorders, and adult rehabilitation. Skilled in developing treatment plans that incorporate evidence-based practices for physical rehabilitation and mental health support. Excellent client communication skills to educate patients and families about therapy goals and progress. Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently through effective case management strategies and documentation practices. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) management systems for accurate clinical documentation. Experience working in various settings such as inpatient hospitals (including ICU), skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, home health services, schools (special education needs), and post-acute care environments. Knowledge of occupational health principles applicable to workplace injury prevention and rehabilitation programs. Demonstrated capability in implementing occupational therapy assessments tailored for pediatric populations or adults recovering from injury or illness. Ability to adapt interventions for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders like autism spectrum disorder or other disabilities requiring specialized approaches.
