Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Experience working with school-aged students, preferably in an educational environment Ability to design and implement individualized orientation and mobility plans Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams Knowledge of adaptive technology and mobility devices Familiarity with federal and state laws regarding students with visual impairments
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct assessments to determine individual student needs related to orientation and mobility Develop and implement tailored lesson plans to help students safely navigate school and community environments Provide direct instruction in cane techniques, route planning, street crossings, and public transportation use Maintain accurate progress notes and adapt goals as needed Train staff and support educational teams on best practices and accessibility considerations Serve as a resource to families, encouraging participation and understanding of orientation and mobility strategies This contract opportunity offers a chance to make a tangible impact on students independence and confidence within a dynamic school community.
