Qualifications and Experience:

State certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Proven experience working with school-aged children or youth with visual impairments Strong understanding of current best practices in Orientation and Mobility training Aptitude for building trusting relationships with students, families, and educational staff Excellent written and verbal communication skills Flexible and adaptable approach to meeting diverse student needs

Role Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive O&M assessments to determine students strengths and areas for growth Develop and implement individualized O&M instructional plans, tailored for each students unique needs Teach safe and effective travel techniques, including cane skills, street crossings, use of public transportation, and familiarization with school and community environments Collaborate closely with teachers, paraprofessionals, families, and IEP teams to integrate O&M goals into students daily routines Track student progress and maintain clear, accurate documentation and reports in compliance with regulations Provide professional guidance and resources to colleagues and caregivers In this essential role, youll have the opportunity to make a measurable difference in the lives of students, empowering them to navigate their world safely and independently.
