In this dynamic contract position, youll collaborate with educators and families to empower visually impaired learners, fostering skills essential for academic achievement and mobility. Key Qualifications & Experience:
Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Experience or credentials as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) Knowledge of age-appropriate mobility and orientation techniques Ability to develop and implement individualized instructional plans Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and staff Familiarity with assessment tools for visually impaired students Flexible, organized, and compassionate approach
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver orientation and mobility training tailored to each students needs Provide direct instruction both one-on-one and in small groups Assess student abilities and progress, preparing meaningful reports Partner with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure seamless integration Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise for educational planning Educate families and caregivers on strategies for supporting independence Stay current on best practices for visual impairment instruction and mobility techniques
