General Statement of Duties Provides specialized occupational therapy services within the educational setting to students with intellectual, emotional, physical, and developmental disabilities. Assesses and addresses functional, motor, sensory, and self-regulation needs to enhance student participation, independence, and progress toward Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and educational outcomes. Essential Duties Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students' physical development, fine motor skills, self-care abilities, developmental skills, and sensory processing to identify functional deficits impacting access to and participation in educational programs. Develop and implement evidence-based occupational therapy interventions aligned with Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of IEPs, Section 504 Plans, and other educational support plans, as appropriate. Determine service recommendations, including treatment goals, frequency, type of service, and scheduling based on evaluation findings and student needs. Collect, analyze, and interpret student performance data to monitor progress and inform instructional and therapeutic decision-making. Prepare comprehensive evaluation reports and communicate the educational implications of assessment findings. Recommend appropriate accommodations, environmental modifications, adapted equipment, and assistive technology to support student access and participation. Provide consultation, instruction, and training to school staff, families, and students regarding occupational therapy strategies and interventions. Collaborate with educators, parents, administrators, related service providers, and community agencies to ensure coordinated support for students. Deliver services in the least restrictive environment, promoting skill generalization, independence, and successful participation across school settings. Monitor student progress and adjust interventions, treatment plans, and IEP objectives as needed to address changing needs. Assist in identifying students who may require occupational therapy evaluation or services. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including adherence to special education timelines, documentation standards, and Medicaid billing requirements. Maintain accurate, current, and confidential records of evaluations, services, progress, and communications. Provide guidance to occupational therapy assistants, technicians, and support personnel, as applicable, and supervise occupational therapy students in accordance with departmental and professional standards. Support student transitions between schools, programs, and educational settings through collaborative planning and consultation. Participate in professional development activities, meetings, workshops, and training programs to maintain and enhance professional competency. Requisition therapy supplies and equipment through established departmental processes. Provide services across multiple school sites as assigned. Demonstrate flexibility, teamwork, professionalism, and a commitment to student success. Perform other duties as assigned and maintain regular, reliable attendance. Additional Information This position works part-time, 4.5 hours per day, 189 days per year. Annual salary will be prorated based upon actual work begin date. Minimum Requirements Must possess a strong knowledge of occupational therapy principles and practices in educational settings and a thorough understanding of local, state, and federal special education requirements. Demonstrates the ability to evaluate student needs, analyze data, develop and implement IEP goals, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Strong skills in decision-making, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and the development of educationally relevant occupational therapy services are essential. Must hold a Virginia license as an Occupational Therapist, a valid VA Driver's license and current First Aid, CPR & AED certification. Prior experience in a school setting is preferred.
