Inpatient Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant

POSITION STANDARDS

Associate Degree and completion of internship requirements from an accredited O.T.A. program approved by A.O.T.A. Successful completion of the national certification exam for OTA or current certification as a COTA. Holds a current license or eligible for license to practice in the State of New Hampshire.

Age of Patients Treated:

All ages Current BCLS certification required within 30 days of hire.

POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Anything listed here requires a pre-employment physical by Employee Health to determine if the employee is capable of meeting the requirements. Must have good physical stamina. Be able to move, transfer and assist patient's with activities of daily living.

Physical Activity:

Be able to tolerate much bending, lifting, walking, stooping, standing and desk work.

Upper Extremity:

Ability to manipulate splinting material and/or modalities.

FUNCTIONAL

RESPONSIBILITY

Position Objective Under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR), the COTA assists in evaluation and treats patients referred to Occupational Therapy by a physician; works as part of a rehabilitation team; contributes to the operation of the Occupational Therapy Department. Performance Expectation Treatment Practices Occupational Therapy consistent with the American Occupational Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Maintains a patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the department and the patient. Confers with the persons most closely associated with the management of the patient and keeps them informed of any additional patient needs, treatment modification and/or progress. Evaluation Responsible for the collection of objective information which supports evaluation/assessment. Records, Reports and Communication Responsible for the preparation and submitting of department reports, ensuring confidentiality of all records, including: Current progress notes on all patients with the assigned area. Special reports as requested by the director or supervisor. Daily flow sheet entries and summaries of the same. Assists in maintaining department inventory, in ordering supplies and equipment. Participates in the development of departmental short and long range goals. Attends patient related meetings as delegated by the Occupational Therapy Supervisor. Maintains highest level of department safety and care of equipment. Professional Status and Public Relations Keeps abreast of new techniques and trends in the field of Occupational Therapy. Attends conventions, meetings or special courses whenever possible and shares with the department personnel information gained thereby. Prepares and gives talks to community groups who have made requests for the same. Maintains good public relations with all community sources.
