Job Summary:

The Licensed Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) o Provides occupational therapy interventions under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Physical (OT).

Essential Functions:

The COTA complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices and maintains regulatory requirements as governed by their licensing. The COTA ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding clinical operations, fire, safety, and infection control. The COTA performs all Occupational Therapy procedures as prescribed by the physician, instructed and supervised by a qualified and licensed Occupational Therapist, to attain the maximum level of safety and independence in physical function The COTA evaluates and formulates recommendations for treatment according to professional standards dictated by the profession and practices according to best practice standards. The COTA cooperates with THCS clinical team in the coordination and provision of treatment. The COTA facilitates patient's ROM, strength coordination, use of adaptive equipment and environmental modifications, functional mobility and safety issues as relates to patient's ADL performance needs. The COTA carries out patient's current plan of care in regards to therapy needs, assesses and measures changes, responses and development in relation to treatment goals. The COTA reports significant observations to OT, or supervising nurse. The COTA submits documentation on the services provided in a timely manner. The COTA responds in a safe and appropriate fashion to patient's emergencies The COTA supports and communicates in a goal oriented manner with THCS interdisciplinary team. The COTA instructs patients and their family in learning appropriate self-care techniques. The COTA is capable of lifting the equivalent of an adult-size patient. The COTA participates in in-service programs. The COTA attends case conferences and all other mandatory meetings. The COTA participates in continuing education programs. The COTA conducts themselves in a professional manner, both verbally and nonverbal. The COTA promotes a positive attitude at all times. The COTA performs other duties as assigned or as needed.

Education:

Fully licensed as a Occupational Therapy Assistant by the

State of Texas Training Requirements:

At least one year experience as a Occupational Therapist Assistant preferred. Basic knowledge in computer use. Must be CPR certified and have current TB skin test.

Knowledge Requirements:

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Understanding of HHA basic functions and goals. Basic knowledge and understanding of Medicare COP's and State Program Rules. Able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Knowledge and mastery of Point Of Care device.

Professional Requirements:

Completes the annual educational requirements as required to maintain the COTA license. Maintains and ensures HIPAA compliance. Responsible and accountable to the OT, Supervising RN, the DON, the Assistant DON, the Administrator and the CEO regarding time availability and performance. Maintains good rapport and cooperative working relationships with patients, physicians, referrals sources, regulatory agencies and staff. Adheres to company dress code. Attends annual review and departmental in-service training
