Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Optometric Assistant to join our healthcare team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in eye care and medical office operations. The ideal candidate will support patient care, manage medical records, and assist with clinical and administrative duties in a fast-paced optometry practice. Prior experience in optical or ophthalmology settings is a plus, but we are willing to train motivated candidates with relevant healthcare backgrounds. This position ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations and emphasizes patient confidentiality and safety. Responsibilities Greet patients and assist with check-in and check-out processes at the front desk Conduct intake procedures, including collecting patient history and verifying insurance information Measure vital signs such as blood pressure Prepare patients for examinations by performing basic eye tests and assessments Assist with optical measurements, including refraction and lens fitting support Maintain accurate medical records using EMR systems such as Epic or other electronic health records software Ensure aseptic techniques are followed during clinical procedures to prevent infection Educate patients on eyewear options, lens care, and available retail products Support ophthalmology or optometry providers during examinations and procedures Manage retail sales of eyewear, contact lenses, and accessories while applying retail math principles Maintain a clean, organized clinic environment adhering to safety standards Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, and managing medical billing/coding processes Qualifications Prior experience in medical office settings, ophthalmology, or optometry preferred but not required; training will be provided for the right candidate Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology related to eye care, and HIPAA compliance standards Experience with EMR systems such as Epic or other electronic health records software is advantageous Strong patient care skills with excellent communication abilities Ability to perform clinical tasks including vital signs measurement and intake procedures accurately Retail sales experience combined with basic math skills for retail transactions is a plus Familiarity with front desk operations, medical records management, and clinic workflows preferred Ability to work efficiently in a team environment while maintaining attention to detail in a busy setting This position provides an engaging environment for those passionate about eye health and patient service. $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
