Responsibilities Conduct patient intake by gathering medical histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health records (EHR) accurately. Measure pre-testing data with autorefractor and noncontact tonometry and visual acuity. Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment including OCT, visual field, and medical photos. Assist with ophthalmic patient examinations by preparing the exam room, maintaining clinical policies, and supporting the optometrist during procedures. Manage electronic health records (EHR/Epic systems), ensuring all patient data is current, complete, and compliant with HIPAA regulations. Assist with fitting of contact lenses or glasses as needed. Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment using aseptic techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety at all times. Requirements Prior experience in medical office settings or optometry clinics is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy related to eye health, and ophthalmic diagnostic procedures. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems for managing medical records efficiently. Ability to operate medical equipment including tonometers, OCT, visual field, and optos is preferred. Excellent patient service skills with a focus on direct patient care and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards. Familiarity with clinical confidentiality policies and aseptic techniques to ensure a safe environment for both patients and staff. Experience in retail sales or front desk duties is a plus for managing patient flow and administrative tasks effectively. Knowledge of medical billing and coding processes can be advantageous but is not mandatory. Ability to work well in a team environment while demonstrating professionalism across diverse patient populations including pediatrics.
