3 Job Overview The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for performing a variety of clinical and administrative duties within a high-volume ophthalmology clinic. The technician will assist ophthalmologists and optometrists with diagnostic testing, patient preparation, and minor procedures while ensuring accurate documentation and patient care. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Duties Prepare patients for eye examinations and procedures Obtain and record patient medical history, medications, and allergies Measure and record visual acuity, color vision, and ocular motility Perform basic eye exams and diagnostic testing Administer dilating drops and topical medications as ordered Perform auto-refraction and intraocular pressure measurements Conduct visual field testing and corneal topography Inform physicians of preliminary patient findings Diagnostic Equipment Experience with the following equipment is preferred: Fundus Photography Autorefractor Lensometer OCT and Fundus Imaging Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer Assisting Physicians Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures Assist with intravitreal injections (IVTA) Support minor surgical procedures , including: Chalazion surgery Skin tag removal Foreign body removal (non-embedded) Label specimens and maintain accurate documentation Office & Administrative Duties Schedule patients and surgeries Chart preparation and EPIC documentation Arrange patient transportation Coordinate pharmacy refill requests Provide patient education on ocular medications and post-procedure care Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments Order and stock medical supplies Assist with dispensing glasses and contact lenses Required Qualifications Minimum 2 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience Optos imaging experience required BLS Certification (AHA or ARC) Flu vaccination required (no exemptions) Experience working in fast-paced, multi-provider clinical environments Preferred Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Ophthalmic Technician program Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) Experience in adult outpatient clinic or physician office settings Patient Population This role provides care for: Pediatrics Adolescents Adults Geriatrics Work Environment Adult outpatient ophthalmology clinic Physician office setting High-volume patient care environment Additional Information EPIC Charting System required One Saturday shift per month required
