An Ophthalmic Technician makes prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses by cutting and shaping lenses according to individual prescriptions. May make lenses for other optical equipment, such as telescopes or microscopes. Works in medical equipment manufacturing facilities and laboratories, retail stores, or in the offices of optometrists and physicians.
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented ophthalmic back office technician to join our team. The primary role of the technician is to support the doctor by working up patients, accurately documenting patient encounters, managing medical records, and ensuring the smooth operation of clinical workflows. This position is crucial in providing high-quality patient care and maintaining efficient clinical operations.
Locations:
Whittier, Pasadena, Pomona, will require traveling and following the doctor.
Full Time Position:
40 hours per week, Mon-Fri; hours 8:30a to 5:00p
Key Responsibilities:
Perform patient work-ups including visual acuity testing, intraocular pressure checks, pupil dilation, and other diagnostic assessments. Accurately document patient history, chief complaint, and clinical findings in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. Prepare exam rooms and assist the physician with in-office procedures, including instrument sterilization and minor surgical prep. Maintain timely and organized patient flow by prepping charts, confirming diagnostic imaging is ready, and coordinating next steps in care. Travel with the physician to multiple clinic locations and ensure clinical readiness at each site. Educate patients on procedures, post-operative instructions, and follow-up appointments to ensure understanding and compliance. Support clinical operations by managing records, scanning, faxing, and handling inbound/outbound communication with patients and providers. Uphold HIPAA standards and maintain strict patient confidentiality. Participate in ongoing training to stay current with ophthalmic terminology, EMR updates, and clinical protocols.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Previous experience as a back office technician is highly desirable. Experience in oculoplastics, retina, or ophthalmology is a plus.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other medical software. Strong typing and data entry skills.
