Position We are seeking a full-time, energetic, reliable, and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Scribe to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with our ophthalmologists and optometrists to accurately document patient encounters, assist with clinical workflow, and help ensure an exceptional patient experience. The Ophthalmic Scribe will be responsible for documenting medical histories, examination findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and physician recommendations in the electronic health record (EHR). The ideal candidate will have strong ophthalmic knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment. Responsibilities Accurately document patient histories, examination findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and physician recommendations in the EHR. Serve as a scribe for ophthalmologists and optometrists during patient examinations and consultations. Accurately record visual acuity, ocular history, systemic history, medications, allergies, and other relevant clinical information. Assist physicians with patient flow and ensure clinical documentation is completed accurately and efficiently. Prepare patient charts and review relevant medical information prior to physician examinations. Assist with diagnostic testing and clinical procedures as directed by the physician. Instruct patients regarding testing and examination procedures when appropriate. Assist with patient education and reinforce physician instructions. Assist with in-office procedures, including room preparation, obtaining and documenting appropriate informed consent, and room clean-up. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with office policies and clinical standards. Communicate professionally with patients, physicians, technicians, and other members of the team. Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination and procedure rooms. Ensure equipment and supplies are properly maintained and available for daily operations. Assist with laser and ophthalmic procedures as directed and within the scope of training. Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications only under the direction of the physician and in accordance with applicable policies and regulations. Assist with training other ophthalmic personnel as assigned. Help facilitate efficient patient flow and communicate with physicians and clinical staff regarding patient status. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable healthcare regulations. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Occasional travel between locations for clinical support as needed. Performance Requirements Strong ophthalmic knowledge and understanding of common ophthalmic terminology and procedures. Previous experience as an ophthalmic scribe, ophthalmic technician, medical scribe, or in a similar clinical role preferred. Excellent typing, documentation, and computer skills. Experience working with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Ability to accurately document information while actively listening to the physician and interacting with patients. Ability to speak clearly and communicate professionally and compassionately. Exceptional customer service skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, employees, and the public. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment. Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills. Professional written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
