Full-Time Position Summary Local ophthalmologist is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to support our ophthalmic surgeon and surgical team in delivering exceptional patient care. This position is responsible for preparing and maintaining the sterile field, assisting during ophthalmic surgical procedures, and ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are available and functioning properly. The Surgical Technologist reports directly to the Director of Nursing and works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, anesthesia providers, and clinical staff to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare operating rooms for ophthalmic surgical procedures, ensuring all equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and functioning properly. Establish and maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures. Scrub and assist the ophthalmic surgeon during surgery, anticipating the surgeon's needs and passing instruments and supplies efficiently. Assist with cataract, corneal, refractive, and other anterior segment surgeries. Perform instrument and supply counts according to established policies and procedures. Clean, inspect, and prepare surgical instruments for sterilization and use. Assist with room turnover and preparation between cases to maintain efficient surgical flow. Monitor inventory levels and notify the Director of Nursing of supply needs. Adhere to infection prevention, OSHA, AAAHC/Joint Commission, and facility standards. Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain accurate documentation as required. Demonstrate a professional, patient-centered approach at all times. Qualifications Required Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program. Current Surgical Technologist certification (CST) preferred or eligibility for certification. Knowledge of aseptic technique, sterilization procedures, and operating room protocols. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Preferred Prior experience in ophthalmology, ambulatory surgery, or microsurgical procedures. Familiarity with ophthalmic instruments, phacoemulsification equipment, and surgical microscopes. Experience in a high-volume outpatient surgery environment. Competencies Commitment to patient safety and excellence in care. Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced surgical setting. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures. Ability to lift and move supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds.
