Job Description

OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN
Position Summary We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our growing eye care team. The Optometric Technician plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care by assisting doctors with examinations, performing preliminary testing, educating patients, and ensuring a smooth and efficient patient experience. Starting pay is $17.50 per hour, with opportunities for higher starting wages based on experience and qualifications. No prior optical experience is required for the right candidate; we are willing to train individuals with strong customer service skills and a desire to learn. Essential Responsibilities Welcome and prepare patients for their eye examinations. Obtain patient medical histories and update records accurately. Perform preliminary testing, including: visual acuity, auto-refraction, tonometry, retinal imaging, visual field testing, and other diagnostic testing as directed. Assist doctors during patient examinations as needed. Accurately document findings in electronic health records (EHR). Educate patients regarding recommended treatments, products, and services. Assist with contact lens training and education. Maintain exam rooms and testing equipment. Support front desk and optical team functions when needed. Provide outstanding customer service while creating a welcoming environment for every patient.
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred:
Previous experience in optometry, ophthalmology, healthcare, or customer service. Familiarity with electronic health records. Knowledge of vision insurance plans.
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Basic computer proficiency. Positive attitude and commitment to exceptional patient care. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to operate diagnostic equipment and computers. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
