Optometric Technician Indiana Eye Doctors is a progressive private practice located inside Lenscrafters in the Tippecanoe Mall in Lafayette, IN. We are seeking a
FULL TIME
Optometric Technician who is friendly, energetic, organized, detail oriented with excellent communication skills to join and grow with our team! Position Responsibilities & Performance Expectations As an Optometric Technician, you play an essential role in delivering seamless clinical workflows and high-touch patient service.
Patient Care & Pre-Testing Patient Hospitality:
Escort patients warmly and efficiently from reception to testing areas and exam rooms, establishing a comfortable tone for their visit.
Diagnostic Workups:
Accurately perform routine diagnostic pre-testing, including autorefraction, non-contact tonometry (NCT), retinal imaging, visual fields testing, and lensometry.
Health Records Entry:
Collect and record comprehensive medical/ocular histories, primary complaints, and current medications within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Clinical Support & Doctor Assistance Provider Handoffs:
Deliver concise verbal briefings to the Optometrist regarding patient complaints, clinical history updates, and diagnostic results prior to exam entry.
Exam Assistance:
Assist the doctor during comprehensive eye examinations, specialized contact lens evaluations, and in-office minor clinical procedures.
Sanitation & Room Prep:
Sanitize, restock, and organize diagnostic tools and exam rooms between appointments to maintain efficient pacing and clinic hygiene. Contact Lens Services Patient Insertion & Removal (I&R)
Instruction:
Train new contact lens wearers on insertion, removal, hygiene protocols, and wear schedules with patience and structure.
Inventory & Order Management:
Process, track, and verify incoming contact lens orders against active prescriptions, managing patient pickups and dispensing seamlessly.
Insurance & Financial Verification Plan Classification:
Accurately distinguish between vision plans (e.g., VSP, EyeMed) and medical insurance (e.g., Medicare, major medical providers) based on patient complaints; verify active coverage online.
Financial Transparency:
Identify copays and non-covered service fees early to inform patients of out-of-pocket costs prior to their examination.
Billing Setup:
Input precise insurance authorizations, coverage allowances, and copay requirements into the scheduling software for clean billing.
Patient Communications & Scheduling Appointment Outreach:
Execute HIPAA-compliant reminders via phone, text, and email while communicating required pre-visit materials (medication lists, current eyewear, insurance cards).
Schedule Optimization:
Promptly manage cancellations and reschedule requests to fill open slots and maintain consistent clinic flow.
Triage & Urgency Screening:
Evaluate inbound patient calls for acute ocular symptoms (sudden vision loss, pain, red eyes) and escalate urgent cases appropriately.
Facility Operations & Practice Culture Checklist Execution:
Complete opening and closing operational checklists daily to ensure facility readiness.
Facility Maintenance:
Maintain high clinical hygiene standards, manage supply restocking, and ensure daily trash removal is completed.
Team Collaboration:

Office Hours:
  • Monday
  • Friday 10:00AM-6:00PM
  • Saturday 10:00AM-6:00PM
  • Sunday 12:00PM-4:00PM Qualifications and skills:
  • GED or High School Diploma
  • Optometric or medical office experience is preferred, but not required.
  • On-the-job training
  • Must be comfortable with technology. Specifically, electronic health records, google applications, and Microsoft office.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently in a fast pace environment with little or no supervision.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and problem solving skills.
Pay:
$14.00
