Job Description
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the doctor with patient examinations by taking selected case history information and performing tests for visual acuity, tonometry tests, blood pressure, depth perception and color vision and additional tests as needed and/or as requested by the Optometrist. Maintains accurate patient charts and records. Assists the Optometrist to include scheduling examinations, confirming appointments, collecting fees; maintains records of daily deposits. Maintains records, schedules appointments, prepares correspondence, and filing. Prepares patient for vision examination; assists in testing for near and far acuity, depth perception, macula integrity, color perception, and visual field, utilizing ocular testing apparatus as directed by Optometrist. Instructs patient in care and use of glasses or contact lenses. Works with patient in vision therapy. Assists patient in frame selection. Adjusts and repairs glasses. Modifies contact lenses. Maintains inventory of materials and cleans instruments. Assists in fabrication of eye glasses or contact lenses. Ensures the safety and comfort of patient and families according to legal, organizational and professional standards. Performs other duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training High school diploma or equivalent Graduate of an approved vision technology school (preferred) Certified as an Optometrist Assistant (not required but highly preferred) Experience At least 1 year of experience under an Optometrist preferred 1 year Health Care experience (preferred) Skills/Job Requirement Strong organizational and time management skills Proven ability to work well in a team environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to follow HealthLinc policies and procedures Technology Skills Operate a multi-line phone system and other office equipment including printers, fax machines, etc. Basic software skills (Microsoft Office, EHR, online sources, etc.)DIRECT SUPERVISION
