is a plus but non-certified Ophthalmic Tech will be considered as well. The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for providing the highest quality ophthalmic patient care possible. The Ophthalmic Technician performs patient histories, completes requested ophthalmic testing and consistently provides superior customer service for the patients. The Ophthalmic Technician ensures the proper utilization of time and movement of the patient throughout the patient visit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required
• Must complete the home study ophthalmic program within twelve months of employment

JCAHPO COA

Certification required within 18 months of employment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Consistently performs proper documentation of case history, confrontation visual fields, pupil evaluation, screening extra-ocular muscle function, visual acuity, assessment of angle depth, instillation of diagnostic pharmaceutical agents, amsler grid and other functions as directed by the clinical physician 2. Obtains eyeglass prescriptions via lensometer 3. Performs patient testing accurately and effectively as directed by the clinical provider(s) i.e. Slit Lamp Exam, Visual Fields, Color Test, Tonometry, OCT's, Fundus Photos, etc. 4.

If assigned to an ophthalmologist:

must be learn to scribe 5. Effectively communicates physician instructions to patients and documents accordingly 7. Assists the physician with pharmacy calls, patient calls, etc. 8. Ensures the scheduling template is being followed correctly 9. Ensures all patient lanes are clean and well-stocked at the end of each day 10. Ensures all equipment is turned off and covered properly at the end of day 11. Completes tech station duties on a daily basis 12. Call in Rx's - Only certified ophthalmic techs can ERx. The exception is the tech can ERx if scribing for a doctor and the script is done under the doctor's name 13. Must have an understanding of sterile technique 14. Professional and Personal Development/Goals and Objectives a. Exhibits professional demeanor with a positive enthusiastic attitude at all times when representing the practice b. Maintains certification, where applicable, and continues to improve skills. Must attend in-services and webinar training seminars as directed by the Clinical Manager c. Sets goals and objectives for professional growth. Reviews and revises goals on an ongoing basis d. Provides input on how to improve customer service, decrease costs and increase revenues for the practice 15. Customer Service a. Supports the practice core values and mission statement to develop, enhance and promote quality customer service through team effort b. Exhibits flexibility, sensitivity and respect while maintaining an effective working relationship with all team members 16. Maintains practice confidentiality, follows HIPAA guidelines 17. Follows the rules and regulations of the practice as documented in the practice employee manual 18. Completes any additional tasks and responsibilities as noted in the pay for performance program 19. Maintains proper work-up standards of productivity as defined by physician requirements, patient diagnosis and Clinical Manager 20. Assumes other duties as assigned
