In this vital role, you will assist licensed optometrists and ophthalmologists in providing exceptional eye care services. Your responsibilities will include preparing patients for examinations, assisting with optical measurements, managing medical records, and supporting retail sales of eyewear products. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where your technical skills and compassionate approach will make a real difference in patients' lives. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in optics, medical terminology, and healthcare regulations, along with a passion for delivering outstanding patient service. Responsibilities Prepare patients for eye examinations by taking vital signs, collecting medical histories, and ensuring patient comfort. Assist with optical measurements, including pupillary distance, refraction, and other testing procedures using advanced diagnostic equipment. Manage and update electronic medical records (EMR systems) accurately while maintaining strict adherence to clinical confidentiality policies and HIPAA regulations. Support the optical sales process by helping patients select frames and lenses, demonstrating product features, and processing transactions through POS systems. Ensure laboratory tasks are completed efficiently, including lens edging, mounting, and quality control to meet industry standards. Maintain a clean and sterile environment using aseptic techniques to prevent contamination during procedures. Stay informed about current health regulation policies and state healthcare regulations to ensure compliance across all clinical activities. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care plans, including pediatrics and senior care populations. Assist with inventory management of optical supplies and medical equipment while adhering to safety protocols. Support billing processes by understanding medical coding related to ophthalmology services and ensuring accurate documentation for medical billing. Experience Prior experience working in retail optometry or ophthalmology clinics is highly preferred. Knowledge of ophthalmology practices, anatomy of the eye, physiology, and medical terminology is essential. Hands-on laboratory experience with lens fabrication or optical device calibration is advantageous. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms used in clinical settings. Understanding of health regulation policies including HIPAA compliance and clinic-specific confidentiality policies. Experience handling vital signs measurement and basic clinical assessments within a healthcare environment. Background in retail sales or retail management, especially within optical or healthcare settings, is beneficial. Ability to navigate POS systems efficiently while demonstrating strong retail math skills for transaction accuracy.
