Optometric Technician/Scribe Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Optometric Technician/Scribe to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with optometrists and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care. Your primary responsibilities will include performing preliminary eye examinations, gathering patient medical histories, assisting with diagnostic procedures, and accurately documenting patient information and maintaining electronic medical records. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optometry, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering compassionate care to our patients.
Responsibilities:
Conduct preliminary tests and examinations such as visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry. Assist optometrists with diagnostic procedures including OCT scans, retinal imaging, and visual field testing. Obtain and record detailed patient medical histories, including medications and allergies. Prepare patients for examinations and treatments, explaining procedures as necessary. Document examination findings and treatment plans accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Coordinate patient scheduling and manage patient flow in the clinic. Educate patients on eye care procedures, contact lens handling, and eye health maintenance. Maintain optometric instruments and equipment, ensuring cleanliness and functionality. Adhere to clinic policies, procedures, and safety protocols at all times.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; certification as an Optometric Technician (COT) or Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred. Proven experience working as an Optometric Technician or in a similar role. Strong understanding of optometric terminology, diseases, and treatment options. Proficiency in performing diagnostic tests and using optometric equipment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems and basic computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as an Optometric Scribe (OSC) or experience in medical scribing.
Working Conditions:
Full-time position (40 hours per week) with potential for overtime based on clinic needs. Fast-paced clinical environment with exposure to medical instruments and patient care activities.
