Optical Polishing Technician (Entry Level)Mission of the Role This role exists to develop the next generation of Optical Polishing Technicians by training individuals with strong technical aptitude to manufacture precision optical components used in Clear Align's advanced EO/IR systems. Through hands-on training and mentorship, you will learn traditional spindle polishing techniques used to shape, refine, and finish optical surfaces to exacting specifications. Using specialized polishing equipment, pitch laps, abrasive materials, and precision measurement tools, you will help produce high-quality optical components that support critical defense, aerospace, and national security applications. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop specialized manufacturing skills and build a long-term career in precision optical fabrication. This position will begin on first shift for approximately 3-6 months to complete training and skill development. Upon successful completion of training, the role will transition permanently to second shift. Candidates must be willing and able to work second shift as their regular schedule. In Your First Year You Will (What Success Looks Like)First 90 Days - Learn the Fundamentals Complete training in optical fabrication processes, spindle polishing techniques, safety procedures, and quality requirements. Learn how pitch laps, polishing compounds, abrasive slurries, and polishing equipment are used to achieve optical surface requirements. Develop familiarity with optical materials, handling practices, engineering drawings, and production documentation. Assist experienced technicians with polishing operations, inspections, and production support activities. Learn basic optical measurement and inspection techniques used to verify component quality. Demonstrate attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow established procedures and work instructions. Build the skills and knowledge necessary to transition successfully to second-shift production operations. By 6 Months - Build Technical Skills and Independence Perform routine spindle polishing operations with increasing independence while meeting quality and production expectations. Develop proficiency in measuring optical components using interferometers, drop gauges, calipers, and other inspection equipment. Learn to control polishing variables such as pressure, speed, and material removal rates to achieve required optical specifications. Accurately document production activities and inspection results. Identify and communicate quality concerns, process issues, or equipment problems promptly. Successfully transition to and integrate into second-shift operations following completion of training. By 12 Months - Become a Trusted Production Contributor Independently polish spherical and flat optical components to meet dimensional, surface quality, and performance requirements. Demonstrate consistent workmanship and process discipline while maintaining high standards of quality and craftsmanship. Contribute to process improvements, productivity initiatives, and continuous learning within the Optical Fabrication team. Serve as a dependable team member who can be trusted to produce quality optical components, maintain documentation, and support production goals. How You Know You Are Winning Optical components consistently meet quality, dimensional, and surface finish requirements. Fabrication and inspection records are accurate, complete, and submitted on time. You continue building technical skills and confidence with polishing equipment, fabrication processes, and inspection methods. Strong technical aptitude and interest in manufacturing, machining, engineering, skilled trades, or precision fabrication. Ability to learn and follow detailed procedures, specifications, and work instructions. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Basic computer skills. Ability to work first shift during training and permanently transition to second shift upon completion of training. U.S. Person required. Preferred Extras Technical school, vocational training, machining coursework, or manufacturing experience. Experience operating machinery, tools, or manufacturing equipment. Exposure to polishing, machining, optics manufacturing, precision assembly, or inspection activities. Experience reading technical drawings or blueprints.
