Position Summary The Ophthalmic Technician plays a critical role in the patient experience by performing comprehensive ophthalmic testing, assisting physicians during examinations and procedures, and ensuring the efficient flow of patients throughout the practice. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of ophthalmology experience and possess strong clinical, technical, and interpersonal skills. Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Support Prepare patients for examination by obtaining and documenting medical and ocular histories. Measure and record visual acuity, pupil responses, ocular motility, confrontation visual fields, and other preliminary testing. Perform refractions and lensometry. Conduct diagnostic testing, including: Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Visual Field Testing, Fundus Photography, Corneal Topography, Pachymetry Administer eye drops and medications as directed by physicians. Assist physicians during examinations, minor procedures, and treatments. Educate patients regarding procedures, medications, and post-treatment instructions. Documentation & Compliance Accurately document patient information and physician findings within the electronic medical record (EMR). Ensure charts are complete and prepared for physician review. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable regulations. Practice Operations Maintain examination rooms, instruments, and equipment. Ensure equipment is properly calibrated and functioning. Assist with patient flow to maximize efficiency and minimize wait times. Collaborate with physicians, technicians, optical staff, and administrative personnel to deliver an outstanding patient experience. QualificationsRequired Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an ophthalmology practice. Strong knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, diseases, medications, and diagnostic testing. Experience performing ophthalmic workups independently. Proficiency with electronic medical records. Excellent communication and patient-service skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Preferred Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or higher certification. Experience in cataract, glaucoma, retina, and comprehensive ophthalmology. Experience assisting with minor office procedures and injections.
