Job Title:
Ophthalmic Technician Job Description As a Ophthalmic Technician , you will support patient care by working closely with physicians to gather comprehensive patient information, ensuring accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment plans. Your role includes performing preliminary patient assessments, conducting diagnostic testing, and assisting physicians during in-office procedures and treatments. You will also manage patient flow efficiently and contribute to clinic efficiency by supporting both clinical and administrative tasks. Responsibilities Greet and room patients; verify demographics, insurance details, and chief complaint. Obtain and document patient medical/ocular history, medications list, allergies, and reason for visit in the EHR. Perform routine non-invasive ophthalmic pre-testing, including visual acuity screening, basic lensometry, and more. Prepare exam rooms; stock supplies; clean and maintain clinic equipment following infection control guidelines. Provide clear patient instructions before and during testing and escort patients through their visit. Accurately enter results and supporting documentation into the EHR; communicate findings to the provider. Support scheduling, prior authorizations, referrals, and patient communications as needed. Participate in clinic huddles, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies. Essential Skills At least 6 months of experience in a medical office setting. Proficiency in medical and healthcare practices, including cleaning/prepping rooms and patient charting. Experience with office administration and Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Additional Skills & Qualifications Own transportation is required. Bilingual abilities are highly preferred but not required. Work Environment This position is located in an office with 2 physicians and 22 staff members, seeing around 60 patients a day. The office provides a supportive work environment with growth opportunities, including a 401K plan and comprehensive vision coverage for all colleagues. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wayne, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
