Job Description

SUMMARY:
Perform a range of scribe technician duties which include preparing the patient to see the doctor (preliminary exam, medical history, & testing), office tasks (EMR data entry, filing, faxing, and scheduling), Performing in-room documentation of exams under physician guidance, and assisting physicians as needed. Our office is a supportive team environment seeking like-minded individuals to prioritize excellence & high-quality patient experiences. For motivated applicants, there is opportunity for added responsibility for tasks including scribing, surgical coordination, & more. •Pre-medical or medical students seeking long-term (6 months or more) clinical experience and ophthalmology exposure, (i.e., during a school break or gap year etc.) are welcome to apply.
DUTIES & TASKS
Patient Workups:
Recording medical history, testing glasses, and vision. Accurately record all information in EMR system according to established standards and physician requirements.
Physician Scribe:
Document exam information in EMR system during physician exam
Test Administration:
Administer Visual Field Tests, OCT scans, & other equipment as based upon performance
Office Tasks:
Utilize EMR system for inter-office communications, messages, notes, etc. General office support, including but not limited to filing, faxing, and scheduling. Regularly clean and disinfect medical equipment and office areas. Maintain confidentiality to maintain HIPAA compliance with all patients, doctors, and staff. Other duties as requested.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or Equivalent (required) Excellent computer, documentation, and communication skills (required) Outstanding interpersonal skills (required) • Ability to commute to Syracuse, NY (13210) (required) Associates degree and/or JCAHPO Certification (preferred) Previous experience in an Ophthalmic Technician or Scribe role (preferred) Working knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA regulations, & EMR systems (preferred)
Experience:
Ophthalmic Technician:
1 year (Preferred)
Medical/Ophthalmic Scribe:
1 year (Preferred)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job is performed in a professional medical office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines as well as medical equipment. This role also uses medical equipment such as ophthalmic testing devices.
