Job Description
Position Summary:
The Optometric Technician supports optometrists and other healthcare providers in delivering comprehensive eye care services within Center Street Community Health Center. This role involves performing preliminary vision testing, assisting with patient care, maintaining clinical equipment, and ensuring efficient clinic workflow while serving a diverse and often underserved patient population. Essential duties andResponsibilities:
Conduct preliminary patient testing, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure, visual fields, and lensometry. Document patient medical and ocular history accurately in the electronic health record (EHR). Prepare patients for examination and assist the optometrist during procedures. Provide patient education on eye health and treatment plans. Schedule appointments and manage patient flow to optimize clinic efficiency. Verify patient demographics, insurance, and sliding fee eligibility (as applicable). Maintain accurate and timely documentation. Calibrate, clean, and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment. Ensure exam rooms are stocked, sanitized, and ready for patient care. Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs as needed. routine duties are performed with minimal supervision; standard practices and procedures are followed to proceed alone at routine work; occasional check of work while in progress; work is reviewed upon completion. Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex projects.Required Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology and diagnostic equipment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work with diverse and underserved populations.Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an optometric or ophthalmic technician training program preferred. Prior experience in an optometry or healthcare setting preferred.
