Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Ophthalmology Technician Trainee to join our dynamic eye care team. This paid internship offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing a career in ophthalmology or medical assisting within a specialized clinical environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to patient service, possess foundational knowledge of physiology and medical terminology, and be eager to develop skills in ophthalmic examinations and diagnostic procedures. As an Ophthalmology Technician Trainee, you will gain hands-on experience supporting ophthalmologists and optometrists while ensuring high standards of patient care and confidentiality. This position provides valuable training for individuals aspiring to advance within the field of eye care while contributing meaningfully to patient well-being through direct support and clinical assistance. Ophthalmic Practice is looking for a trainee candidate to become an Ophthalmic Optometric Technician. Technicians assist the Doctor and patients with pre-testing (acuities, auto-refractions, tonometry, stereo testing, color testing etc.), medical testing (OCT, HRT, visual fields, retinal photos etc.) refractions, and contact lenses. Technicians will also be trained to help with eye-wear selection, ordering, insurance submitting, dispensing, adjusting/repairs along some reception duties. The ideal trainee must possess a "friendly" personality, have a "can do' positive attitude, be a team player, ability to work with all ages of patients, wants to learn and grow professionally, be hard working, reliable, and able to multi-task. The successful trainee will have a long term in-demand career path. Duties Assist with patient intake processes, including collecting medical history and verifying insurance information in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Prepare patients for ophthalmic examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort throughout the process. Operate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment including A-scan biometry, tonometry devices, and ophthalmic imaging tools under supervision. Maintain strict aseptic techniques during clinical procedures to prevent infection and ensure patient safety. Support the administration of eye refraction tests and assist with basic ophthalmic patient examinations. Manage paper health records (EHR/EHR) systems accurately, documenting patient information securely while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies. Provide exceptional patient service by addressing questions, ensuring a positive experience, and maintaining professional communication at all times. Collaborate with team members to uphold clinic standards, assist with inventory management of medical supplies, and ensure the cleanliness of clinical areas. Qualifications Prior experience in medical office settings or retail sales involving optical products is preferred but not mandatory. Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient service and teamwork. Ability to learn quickly, follow detailed instructions, and adhere to clinical confidentiality policies.
