Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician/Assistant to join our dynamic eye care team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support optometrists in delivering comprehensive eye examinations and exceptional patient care. Responsibilities Assist optometrists with patient intake, including collecting medical histories and pretesting. Perform vital signs measurements such as blood pressure, pulse, and ocular measurements to support diagnostic processes. Operate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment including tonometers for intraocular pressure measurement, visual fields and ophthalmic imaging devices. Conduct preliminary eye examinations, including autorefraction tests and visual acuity assessments. Maintain strict aseptic techniques and adhere to clinical confidentiality policies to ensure patient safety and privacy. Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures clearly, ensuring comfort, and managing expectations effectively. Support the optical department by assisting with frame selection, lens ordering, and retail sales while applying retail math principles. Manage medical records diligently, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and accurate documentation of clinical findings. Assist in maintaining medical equipment operation, calibration, and cleanliness to ensure optimal performance during patient examinations. Provide direct patient care through compassionate communication, ensuring a positive experience from check-in to checkout. Experience Prior experience working in a medical office setting or ophthalmology practice is highly preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye health and physiology enhances effectiveness in this role. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment is advantageous. Experience with medical coding related to ophthalmology procedures supports accurate billing processes. Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance, clinical confidentiality policies, and patient privacy standards is essential. Background in optical sales or retail experience can be beneficial for supporting optical department functions. Demonstrated ability to operate medical equipment such as tonometers, A-scans, and other ophthalmic diagnostic tools is desirable.
