About us: The Eye Institute has been providing the highest quality of eye care in an ever-changing world of medical innovation. Today, we're known as Northeast Oklahoma's most comprehensive eye care centers. The Eye Institute is a multi-specialist Ophthalmology practice, offering services ranging from comprehensive eye exams to specialty services including General Ophthalmology, Cornea, Retina, Glaucoma, Pediatrics and Adult Strabismus, Refractive and Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery.
About the position:
The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for escorting patients into exam rooms and performing initial part of visual examination for physician. Does testing as prescribed by physician.
Essential functions:
Escorts patients into exam rooms and performs initial part of visual examination for physician. Completes a detailed patient history including past medical history, family medical history, medication history and chief complaint. Performs appropriate tests as needed according to office policy and procedures. Assists back office procedure to provide good patient/doctor workflow. Does patient education in the office and on the telephone. Ensures appropriate documentation is available on patients' charts. Ensures appropriate supplies/equipment is available and functional for patient care according to office policy and procedures. Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining medical records and operating procedures. Prepares necessary paperwork for surgeries ordered by the physicians according to office policies and procedures. Provides assistance in all other areas in office when completion of above responsibilities permits to ensure smooth operation of the practice. Provides assistance to administration in developing, implementing and maintaining office policies and procedures. Knowledge, skills, abilities required for the position: Must possess some general medical knowledge including diseases and medications that are pertinent to patient care in ophthalmology. Skill in operating computers, printers, telephones, fax machines, copiers, scanners, calculators, transcribers, ophthalmic medical equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Great attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure, communicate, present information, and to multi-task. Knowledge of HIPAA policies and regulations.
Physical/Mental requirements:
  • Requires good physical and mental health.
  • Requires full range of body motion including lifting and carrying of patient charts, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing, walking and sitting for extensive periods of time
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and orally.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
  • Requires a professional attitude to deal with patients with an unpleasant aspect of illness.
Required experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Two years Medical Technician experience or Certified Ophthalmic Technician or Medical Technologist preferred.
