This role is ideal for someone who enjoys healthcare, technology, patient interaction, and hands-on learning . You will be one of the first clinical team members patients work with during their visit, so your ability to make patients comfortable, explain procedures clearly, collect accurate information, and maintain efficient patient flow is essential. No optical experience is required. MyEyeDr. provides role-specific training and the tools needed to learn the position. Prior healthcare, medical-office, optometric, ophthalmic, or patient-care experience is helpful, but we are equally interested in candidates who are dependable, personable, detail-oriented, comfortable learning technology, and motivated to build a career in eye care. The Optometric Technician reports to the Office General Manager while directly supporting the office's Doctor(s) of Optometry . Some evening and weekend availability is required. What You'll Do Welcome patients and help prepare them for their visit with the optometrist. Review and accurately document the patient's chief complaint, current symptoms, medical history, medications, allergies, and relevant eye history . Update patient information accurately within the electronic health record. Maintain an efficient flow of patients between check-in, pretesting, the Doctor, and other members of the office team. Explain each pretesting procedure before performing it so patients understand what to expect and remain comfortable throughout the visit. Perform preliminary vision testing and measurements in accordance with MyEyeDr. training and office protocols. Accurately enter testing results into the appropriate EHR fields and verify information before completing the patient handoff. Conduct contact-lens training for applicable patients. Clean and prepare pretesting equipment and patient-contact surfaces between patients. Communicate clearly with Doctors and office team members regarding patient information, testing completion, and any concerns reported by the patient. Help create a seamless, professional patient experience from the beginning of the clinical visit through the Doctor handoff. Pretesting & Equipment You May Learn to Use Training is provided on the equipment and testing used in the office. Depending on the patient's visit and the Doctor's orders, responsibilities may include: Visual Acuity Testing Measure distance vision using a Snellen or electronic acuity chart, testing the appropriate eye individually and binocularly and accurately documenting results. Lensometry Use an automated lensometer to read the patient's current eyeglass prescription, including sphere, cylinder, axis, and add power when applicable. Autorefraction Operate an autorefractor to obtain preliminary measurements of the patient's refractive error before the Doctor's examination. Keratometry Capture corneal-curvature measurements using the office's autorefractor/keratometer equipment. Non-Contact Tonometry Measure intraocular pressure using non-contact tonometry equipment and accurately document the readings for each eye. Retinal Imaging Assist with retinal photography using fundus-camera or wide-field retinal imaging equipment such as Optomap when appropriate. OCT Testing Perform optical coherence tomography imaging when ordered and trained to do so. Color Vision & Stereo Testing Perform color-vision and stereopsis testing when required by the patient's age, visit type, or Doctor protocol. Contact Lens Training Educate appropriate patients on insertion, removal, handling, and basic care of contact lenses. These are preliminary tests and measurements performed to support the Doctor's examination. The Optometric Technician does not independently diagnose eye conditions or replace the Doctor's clinical examination. Patient Care Responsibilities The technical side of the job is only part of the role. A strong Optometric Technician also creates a positive patient experience.

You will:

Introduce yourself and explain what will happen during pretesting. Give patients clear, simple instructions while using equipment. Help patients feel comfortable when equipment comes close to the eyes or uses bright lights or air-pressure testing. Listen carefully when patients describe vision changes or concerns and document what they report accurately. Recognize when a patient has a question or concern that should be brought directly to the Doctor. Maintain patient privacy and follow HIPAA and company confidentiality requirements. Treat every patient with professionalism, patience, and respect. What We're Looking For High school diploma or GED. Ability to understand and perform basic math. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Comfortable working with computers, electronic health records, and medical equipment. Excellent communication and patient-service skills. Ability to learn new equipment and procedures through hands-on training. Comfortable working closely with Doctors and other office team members. Ability to stay organized and maintain patient flow in a fast-paced environment. Dependable, professional, and able to manage multiple responsibilities throughout the day. Willingness to learn about eye care, vision testing, contact lenses, and MyEyeDr. products and services. Preferred Experience The following experience is helpful, but not required : Optometry or ophthalmology office experience. Medical assistant, patient-care technician, CNA, dental assistant, pharmacy technician, or similar healthcare experience. Experience collecting patient histories or entering information into an EMR/EHR. Experience using medical, diagnostic, imaging, or testing equipment. Optical or eyewear experience. Contact-lens experience. Customer-service or hospitality experience in a fast-paced environment. Candidates with strong healthcare or customer-service backgrounds who have never worked in optometry are encouraged to apply.
