Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Ophthalmic Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will be the primary clinical contact for our patients, responsible for conducting comprehensive work-ups and specialized diagnostic testing. A significant portion of this role involves performing cataract evaluations, ensuring surgeons have precise data for surgical planning.
Key Responsibilities Patient Work-ups:
Perform initial screenings, including medical history documentation, visual acuity testing, lensometry, motility, and pupil assessment.
Diagnostic Testing:
Conduct specialized testing such as OCT, Humphrey Visual Fields (HVF), and fundus photography.
Cataract Evaluations:
Perform precise biometry (IOL Master or Lenstar) and corneal topography to assist in intraocular lens (IOL) selection.
Applanation Tonometry:
Accurately measure intraocular pressure (IOP) using Goldmann tonometry.
Clinical Flow:
Maintain a steady pace of patient flow across 5 days a week, ensuring exams are thorough but efficient.
Surgical Coordination:
Assist in educating patients on cataract surgery procedures and post-operative care instructions.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications & Skills Experience:
Minimum [1-2] years of experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting preferred.
Certification:
COA or COT certification is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate with a strong medical background.
Technical Proficiency:
Strong understanding of ophthalmic equipment and eye anatomy.
Soft Skills:
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to put anxious surgical patients at ease.
Reliability:
Ability to maintain a consistent 5-day-per-week schedule in a fast-paced environment.
