Southern Eye Associates is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to join our clinical team. This position is primarily responsible for performing patient workups, accurately documenting medical information, and providing an exceptional patient experience. The ideal candidate is approachable, professional, self-motivated, and thrives in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of patient care. This position requires travel between our Greenville, Greer, and Simpsonville office locations. Key Responsibilities Welcome and acknowledge patients with professionalism and compassion. Communicate the visit process and explain each step of the patient workup. Obtain and accurately document patient medical history, social history, review of systems, and chief complaint. Perform patient workups in accordance with practice protocols and insurance guidelines. Conduct visual acuity, pupillary function, and motility testing. Measure intraocular pressure using Goldmann, iCare, and Tonopen. Safely and accurately instill ophthalmic drops.

Operate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment for:

Automated refraction Lensometry Imaging and scanning of ocular anatomy and pathology Refractometry using a phoropter and/or Epic system Maintain efficient patient flow and assist in resolving clinic bottlenecks. Ensure exam rooms remain clean, sanitized, organized, and fully stocked. Anticipate and respond to patient needs with empathy and professionalism. Answer general questions regarding the practice and available services. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and all applicable state and federal regulations. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. Training Opportunity Southern Eye Associates is a teaching facility. Certification is not required for employment as an Ophthalmic Assistant. Candidates without certification must be willing to complete Southern Eye Associates' one-year ophthalmic training program. Please note that coursework is completed outside normal business hours and is unpaid. Job responsibilities requiring advanced ophthalmic skills are expected only after successful training. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Willingness to travel between Greenville, Greer, and Simpsonville locations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to accurately document medical information. Proficiency with computers and typing speed of approximately 60-65 words per minute. Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment. Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods throughout the workday. Preferred One year of ophthalmology experience. Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT)

Pay:

$17.00 - $25.00 per hour
