Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our dynamic ophthalmology team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in eye care procedures, medical terminology, and clinic operations, with a passion for providing exceptional patient service. As an integral part of our healthcare team, the Ophthalmic Technician will support ophthalmologists in diagnostic testing, patient assessments, and medical record management to ensure accurate and efficient eye care delivery. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialized skills in ophthalmology within a collaborative clinical environment. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and diagnostic tests such as visual acuity assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, and retinal imaging using advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems. Assist ophthalmologists during patient consultations by preparing necessary equipment and ensuring proper documentation of medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Conduct patient history interviews, gather relevant medical information, and explain procedures clearly to ensure patient understanding and comfort. Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic instruments, including slit lamps, autorefractors, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) devices, ensuring optimal functionality. Support clinic operations by managing appointment scheduling, verifying insurance information, and adhering to medical coding standards for billing purposes. Uphold strict confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines while handling sensitive medical records. Demonstrate knowledge of ocular anatomy and physiology to assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Experience Prior experience working in a medical office setting, preferably within ophthalmology or optometry clinics. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms used for electronic health records management. Strong understanding of medical terminology related to eye health and ophthalmic procedures. Experience with optical equipment and knowledge of anatomy relevant to eye care is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to perform clinical testing procedures accurately while maintaining attention to detail. Knowledge of medical coding practices related to ophthalmology services enhances efficiency in billing processes. Clinic experience involving patient interaction, appointment coordination, and record keeping is essential for success in this role.
