Job Description

Position Summary We are seeking a compassionate, dependable ophthalmic assistant to join our patient-care team. In this role, you will work directly with patients and physicians to support eye examinations, diagnostic testing, treatments, and office procedures. Previous ophthalmology experience is helpful but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate who is eager to learn, comfortable working with patients, and committed to providing excellent care. Candidates with experience or interest in medical assisting, behavioral health, phlebotomy, radiology, veterinary technology, or other hands-on healthcare roles are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities Welcome patients and help them feel comfortable throughout their visit Obtain and accurately document each patient's chief complaint, medical history, medications, and relevant health information Perform preliminary eye testing, including: Visual acuity Pupillary assessment Ocular motility Confrontation visual fields Intraocular pressure measurement Pupil dilation Blood pressure measurement Enter complete and accurate information into electronic medical records Prepare examination rooms and patient charts for the physician Perform macular OCT testing and other ophthalmic imaging as assigned Prepare patients and equipment for in-office procedures Assist the physician during examinations, treatments, and procedures Educate patients and families about testing, medications, and follow-up instructions Communicate promptly with physicians and team members regarding patient needs and clinic workflow Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked examination rooms Cross-train to answer telephone calls, schedule appointments, and assist with other front-office responsibilities Perform additional clinical and administrative duties as needed Required Qualifications and Attributes Fluent in both English and Spanish Compassionate and professional when working with patients and families Strong communication and active-listening skills Dependable, punctual, organized, and attentive to detail Demonstrates courtesy, integrity, initiative, and teamwork Comfortable learning medical terminology and ophthalmic procedures Able to learn and use electronic medical records and other computer systems Willing to receive cross-training and assist wherever needed Able to maintain patient confidentiality Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for most of the workday Manual dexterity to operate ophthalmic equipment Ability to view patient images and work on a computer Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, physicians, and staff Ability to assist patients safely during examinations and testing We are looking for someone who enjoys helping others, works well as part of a team, and is excited to develop specialized skills in eye care.
Pay:
$13.00 - $15.00 per hour Expected hours: 24.0 per week
